An Interview with Roger D. Kornberg

Abstract

Roger D. Kornberg, Editor of the Annual Review of Biochemistry, talks with Jon Cohen about his research into the fundamental basis of gene regulation: Transcription. Transcription is the first step and the key control point in the pathway of gene expression and occurs in all plants, animals, and even lower organisms. He also discusses how the strong pull of chemistry led him away from his original major of English Literature and down the path to Chemical Physics, which led him to the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006.
